FIBER ART SWEDEN presents Points of Departure: textiles here and now - numerous events within the expanded field of textiles, 11 – 26 September.
During the period 11-26 September numerous events will take place in different venues in Stockholm. The themes include new technology and textile traditions, textiles as a relational and activist activity, and textiles’ flight from the private to the public.
The network Fiber Art Sweden (FAS) will host Northern Fibre 2010, a biannual event in the Nordic countries that has only once previously been hosted in Sweden since 1995. Thus FAS continues the tradition of sustaining a long-term Nordic network. The project Northern Fibre strives for an internationalisation and dissemination of artistic impulses. For the 2010 project not only will artists from the Nordic countries be invited but also from the rest of Europe and the United States.
The title of the 2010 Northern Fibre is Points of Departure: textiles here and now and the aim is to present the cutting edge of contemporary textile art and create a visual and a physical platform for discussions and dialogue. Points of Departure refers to art that has its starting point in the textile tradition but that takes place in an expanded field.
